Adobe Select – New Licensing Options from Adobe

Adobe today have launched a major update to their VIP (Cloud) licensing program for Commercial & Government customers – and it’s good news for customers already on the Cloud or contemplating joining. These new licensing options, dubbed Adobe Select, offer great value and budget predictability. Furthermore, they bring structured discounts within the scope of a regular Cloud user.

Changes in discount structure

This is the main update that will interest & affect Adobe users. Previously Adobe Cloud programs had discount bands, but they were unrealistically high. An order for 50+ seats was required to access any additional discount from Adobe! This was completely out of the scope of most Irish Creative Cloud customers. The new reduced discount bands offer a great opportunity for savings – an order of 10+ seats of either Creative Cloud or individual Apps (like Photoshop) provides access to an additional 5% discount, possibly rising to 10%.

The old and new bands:

Current Customers

What of companies who already have an Adobe VIP Cloud agreement in place with over 10 seats? Well, good news. Once you reach your Adobe ‘lookback’ period (31 days before VIP Agreement anniversary) you will be automatically upgraded to the level which you qualify for – and can then avail of the new rate of discount for renewals and new licenses.

3 Year Extended Term

Further good news – Adobe Select customers (10+ seats) will now also be able to lock down their pricing for three years. Once an order is placed, contact Micromail and request a 3-year commit – this will allow you to pay annually for three years, with price protection in place. Even better, Adobe will offer an additional 10-15% discount for committing to the three years.

Don’t have the necessary 10+ seats currently, but interested in securing Adobe Select pricing? It’s possible to commit to a 10+ seat purchase so you can avail of the additional extra discount immediately – simply contact Micromail for further details.

Microsoft is set to announce changes to the terms of reference for the hosting channel (service providers contracted under SPLA). This will result in a change in the T&C’s for the hosting community with the contract refresh coming in September 2013 with specific reference to how Service Providers can contract with end user customers. The current rule dictates that service providers cannot use end user customer hardware to provide hosting services using Microsoft technology. This direct correlation with hardware ownership is going to be replaced by the following “managed and controlled by service provider” on End User facilities.

One of the more interesting tidbits we learned while at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference is that wait for Lync Voice breakout for O365 is over. At this year’s Microsoft World Wide Partner Conference, it was revealed that Microsoft will allow the hosting community to leverage Microsoft O365 E3 and E4 plan customers, to provide hybrid agreement multi-tenant Lync Voice services.

This allows service providers working under the SPLA framework to provide Lync hosting services with PSTN breakout, which integrates with their customers O365 tenancy.

For current Lync solution providers, this announcement bridges both a technical, infrastructure and licensing gap and aligns further Microsoft’s broad cloud approach from a partner perspective.

Last May, Adobe launched Creative Cloud for individuals; however this licensing model was not suitable for larger teams, as the membership is tied to an individual, rather than an organisation. For example, you may have members of your design team signed up to Creative Cloud, but if they leave, their subscription could leave with them. Adobes newest offering “Creative Cloud for teams” is the solution to this problem.

What is it?

Adobe Creative Cloud for teams is an on-going membership that provides your organisation access the Adobe Creative Suite 6 applications, as well as:

– Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4
– Adobe Acrobat XI software
– Adobe Muse
– Adobe Edge Tools & Services
– And more…

What does this mean?

As a member, you are entitled to download and use new features as they are released; you get the best tools straightaway. Membership also includes online services* for storage and file sharing, tools for collaboration for workgroups, and a new publishing service that will help your organisation stay innovative and competitive.

The benefits?

– Get the world’s best tools at a more affordable price
– Enable team collaboration in your organisation
– Publish apps and websites
– Stay up to date
– Simplified license management
– Gold support (direct from Adobe) (which covers 24/7 phone support, knowledge base, customer support protal and remote access with a 1hr target response time.

How is licensing simplified?

Adobe’s creative cloud is available through the Value Incentive Plan (VIP) which is the new membership-based volume licensing program. It makes is easier to manage, purchase and then assign permission to use Adobe software and services based on declared user ID numbers.

You will be provided with an administrator portal that allows you to see what’s been purchased and deployed and to whom – all within the same interface. Thus, the agreement administrator has full visibility over who is using the subscription and can re-assign an existing subscription to another user (allowed twice per sub per pear).

If you need additional subscriptions, just add them via your portal and get your designer to work straight away. You just need to place an order with Micromail within 30 days of assigning the new sub. Even better, membership also consolidates your seats and products into a single agreement and automatically prorates any additional seats you might add after the initial purchase to a fixed agreement end date.

Is Creative Cloud for teams ready for Education training environments?

At the moment it’s not an offering that can be used in student labs as access to the Cloud tools are tied into individual email addresses (as opposed to per PC). It just can’t be implemented yet, unfortunately. However Adobe will be addressing this issue.

This does not exclude Educational Institutes entirely however; an excellent educational rate of discount is still available which would suit researchers, technicians and other members of staff.

Micromail is an Adobe certified partner and are offering Creative Cloud for teams under the VIP program now
